Record takings of around £1,400 helped make this year's sun-kissed Cullingworth Gala one of the best ever.

Proceeds will go to the sports club, while other village organisations will keep profits from their stalls on the Gala field.

The sports club again organised the Gala, which began with a procession around the village from Station Road.

The Imperial Crusaders marching band led a collection of floats, cars and people wending their way to the cricket ground.

Cullingworth Brownies won the best-decorated float prize, while primary school pupils walked in the procession.

Local MP Philip Davies rode in the procession then opened the gala field events. Attractions included a goldfish stall, several tombolas, stalls selling plants, crafts and bric-a-brac, and a blow-up slide. Organisations taking part at the field included church groups, Brownies, Guides, Cullingworth Amateur Dramatic Society and Denholme charity shop.

Lesley Welch, the gala organiser, said: "The gala was really good. The weather brought a lot of people down and we had record takings on the gate."
