Keighley's Special Olympians have come home with an impressive clutch of 29 medals from this year's national games.

The team of eleven athletes brought back at least one medal each from the seventh national games at Glasgow, which ran from July 2-8.

They included four gold medals each for power lifters Lynn Williams, Chris Woodhead and Katie Whitaker -- in bench press, dead lift, squat lift and combination.

The athletes were all part of a 31-strong squad from Bradford Sport and Recreation Association for People with Disabilities (BSRAPD).

Development officer Rob Cooper said: "The athletes have been training for a good two years prior to the games.

"To be fair, they have all trained really hard and it has been a credit to the members, athletes and volunteers to do so well.

"They have been a credit to the district. Everyone up in Glasgow welcomed us and the games were above expectations."

Other power lifters Simon Waggett and Martin Sands also took home four medals apiece. Simon lifted four silvers and Martin took a silver in the dead lift section and three bronze medals.

Stephen Thorne and Julian Butterfield took bronze in the ten-pin bowls doubles.

Fellow bowlers Graeme Cunningham, Adrian Swallow and David Brooke also came away with a haul of five medals.

David earned a silver medal in the male pairs and bronze in the singles of carpet bowls.

Adrian earned a bronze in the mixed doubles and singles and Graeme also earned a bronze in his section of the mixed doubles competition.

Athletes James Brown and Neil McCallum took bronze medals in the 400m and 100m events respectively.
