TELFORD UNITED 3

Guiseley 2

GUISELEY'S chance of glory in this seaon's FA Trophy were blown away when they had to re-play their first round tie against Telford. Guiseley failed to press home their advantage in the first tie and paid the price.

After Saturday's game was drawn 0-0 Guiseley made the journey to Telford on Tuesday night knowing that they had failed to take their chance when it came against a Telford side that provided little challenge at Nethermoor.

In the re-play they were a different kettle of fish and gave a vastly improved performance. Still they were no better than Guiseley and the UniBond side had plenty of chances to have won the re-play.

After an early let off when Telford hit the bar Neil Parsley produced a low shot which was well saved by Mark Jones. Peter Aytkinson then produced an excellent cross which Simon Parke just failed to reach with Jones rushing out to snatch the ball.

Brian Gray - sent off along with Neil Parsley in Saturday's game - sent in a curling shot just over the Guiseley bar and then it was Guiseley's turn to get a shot on target. Defender Steve Hook produced one of his piledrivers from 30 yards but unfortunately it was straight at the'keeper.

Neil Matthews was put through by Des Hazel and really should have scored and then Parke put a long range shot juist over.

Steve Taylor then opened the scoring for Telford in the 40th minute but Guiseley were out of luck at the other end when Simon Gough's header was cleared off theline.

Des Hazel's 45th minute corner was cleared back out to him and he put the ball back in for Neil Matthews to head home the equaliser.

Just after the break Matthews shot was parried by Jones and Simon Parke was on hand to hook the ball in to make it 2-1 to Guiseley.

Telford levelled in the 55th minute when Mark Turner's shot was deflected in by Gough's knee with Dickinson diving the other way.

Telford then took the lead with a scrambled goal from Taylor in the 68th minute. How he managed to get the ball in with two or three defenders around him no one knows.

Guiseley continued to press and Hook put a late free-kick wide. Michael Jordan had replaced Paul Ryan in the 75th minute and Lee Elam got a late run replacing Neil Matthews in the 85th minute.
