Leodiensians 51
Ilkley 8
THIS game proved to be a nightmare for Ilkley as they were comprehensively beaten by a much heavier and committed Leos side.
Ilkley started well and were easily the better side for the majority of the first half. Forwards and backs linked together very well and it seemed that Ilkley's smaller but more mobile pack would run the home side ragged.
But for all this effort the only Ilkley score was a very well taken penalty by skipper Justin Hewitt.
With only minutes to go in the first -half Leos got themselves on the scoresheet with what seemed a harsh penalty try.
Ilkley responded with an opportunist unconverted try from young lock Nick Brook but Leos fought back with another penalty to make it 10-8 at the interval.
The second half went badly for Ilkley. Two further penalties took the score to 16-8. The floodgates seemed to open. Ilkley could not cope with Leos much heavier pack and there was danger every time they approached Ilkley's line. Five more tries followed. Three from pushovers from scrums, one from a rolling maul from within Ilkley's 22 and the final one from open play. All the tries were successfully converted.
