Oakbank School is launching its development scheme for girl cricketers next month.

The school, which gained Sports College status last year, has won the backing of the Women's Cricket Association who have sponsored the project with a £1,400 grant.

Helen Plimmer, sports director at the school was part of the England womens' cricket team which travelled to India for the World Cup at the end of last year, and will be helping to pass on her skills to a new generation of young players. Other members of the England Womens' team and Yorkshire cricketers are due to attend the coaching sessions.

Girls from Oakbank and South Craven schools are among those selected to take part in the coaching scheme.

The first session is to be held on Sunday, February 1 from 12 - 3pm and will continue for eight weeks.

The scheme will also follow the Yorkshire Cricket Board's Centre of Excellence programme. Any girls interested in taking part in the scheme can contact the school on 01535-662787.
