Keighley Colts started brightly despite having only 14 men - and ran out 20-7 winners over Bradford Salem.

The Keighley side failed to use their wing men properly allowing Salem to open the scoring with a converted try under the posts. Keighley were drawn into a forward battle with the visitors and the score remained 0-7 in a dull first half.

The home side improved on the re-start with the arrival of fly-half McGee whose tactical kicking tilted the game.

Andy Bennett scored an unconverted try and a penalty from McGee gave Keighley a slender 8-7 lead as they slowly opened up.

A James Hand try in the corner and a storming try from prop Tomlinson converted by McGee completed the scoring.

Keighley forwards stuck to their task well throughout as they faced a strong Salem pack with Lee Gordon outstanding in a fine tackling performance.

Andrew Tomlinson, despite being under pressure in the scrums was again outstanding in the loose.

A stirring second half fight back by the Under-13's was not quite enough to clinch a place in the second round of the Yorkshire Cup.

They allowed visitors Gisborough to get away to a flying start, letting them in for three tries in the first 10 minutes as the North Yorkshire side made use of their physical advantage.

By half time Keighley were 24-5 down, Alec Potter having scored their only first half points. However, the second period saw the Keighley youngsters score three excellent tries through Stuart Inman,Sam Wright and Robert Clarke. Clarke also added a conversion to leave them just two points adrift as the final whistle blew.

The Under-15's were also slow starters in their game at Otley. The home side dominated possession in the first half to establish a 30-point lead at the break.

Keighley came out fighting in the second half and competed very well against a talented home team. Otley extended their lead to 51 points with some breakaway tries before Andrew Broughton burrowed over for a deserved try. Keighley continued to play with spirit and finished well when scrum-half Ian Woodwiss regathered his own chip ahead to score under the posts,Nigel Curr kicking the conversion.

Best for Keighley in a competitive second half were Sam Tate, David Hand, Andrew Broughton and Nigel curr.

The Under-10's and 11's were hosts to rom Leicester Vipers when the game between the Under-10's was a credit to both teams.

Keighley's all-round play was just too much for the Leicester side who always kept trying. Tries were scored by Tom Bleasedale, Chris Lyle, Scott Dyson, Robert Curtin and Oliver robinson to win 25-5.

Both teams and their parents travelled to Headingley to watch Leeds play Rosselyn Park to round off a superb day.

After a night's sleep Keighley took on a good Otley side and even the loss of Craig Spencer and Scott Dyson through injury couldn't deter Keighley from a superb battle. Liam McGee and Oliver Robinson were outstanding, but the determination of the who team couldn't prevent Otley running out 30-25 winners as Keighley suffered their first defeat.

After the Christmas layoff the under-9's returned to action with a well deserved a 15-10 win over Otley. After a shaky start to the first half the Keighley side settled into a rhythm and a well taken try by alex Brown brought a 5-5 half time scoreline.

Better support play in the second half kept Keighley on top and two further tries from Robert Spencer and William Armitage put them clear. A late Otley try made for an interesting last few minutes.

Aggressive running from ross Hardy and Anthony Gererty together with strong tackling from Tom Nixon, William tate and Phillip Blackwell and support play from Sam Long and Nick Robinson produced a good all round team performance.

Other results: Otley Under-17's 36 Keighley 10, Otley Under-16's 79, Keighley 0.

Yorkshire Cup: Hull Under-14's 0 Keighley 27.
