KARATE champs Paul Newby and Amjid Hussain are to represent England.

Paul Newby is flying out to France this weekend with the national senior squad when he will compete in the prestigious Paris Cup.

There they will take on the might over over 40 countries around the world, including fighters from Japan.

Other members of the squad include world champions, Wayne Otto, Willie Thomas and Patricia Duggan.

"It is tremendous honour to be fighting alongside people at that level."

He also took part in an international competition in Venice recently, taking bronze in the Under-65 kilo class.

South Craven School pupil Amjid Hussain , 17, is a black belt 1st dan and will represent England in Birmingham next month.

He has been training in karate for eight years and is confident he will win his individual fights at the Birmingham championships.
