Two people were sentenced for their part in a disturbance in Silsden's main street.

Christine Byram, 36, of North Dene Road, Silsden, was conditionally discharged for 12 months after she pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour.

Her partner, Mark Holmes, 32, of the same address, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly. He was fined £100.

Both were also ordered to pay £40 costs.

The Court heard how a small fight had started at the Robin Hood pub at around 11pm on Sunday, November 23. As customers left the pub the disturbance spilled out into Kirkgate and resulted in police officers being called. They found Holmes and another man fighting in the street and a number of others trying to pull them apart. Holmes continued to be abusive and was arrested by police who realised he was drunk.

Byram was said to be hysterical and she too became abusive. She was restrained by other people at the scene but broke free. She then kicked a police car and adopted 'an aggressive posture' towards officers. Police suspected her of being drunk and she too was arrested.

Bingley magistrates heard how tempers became so frayed during the fight that police had to use CS gas to control the crowd.

Magistrates were told that the couple's behaviour was completely out of character and both regretted the incident.

Eight other people appeared in court on charges relating to the same incident.

Lee Andrew Spencer, 19, of Waterside, Silsden; Sean Raymond Thompson, 33, Of Bolton Road, Silsden; David Waddington, 42, of Nidd Court, Silsden; Scott Waterhouse, 27, of Brunthwaite, Silsden; and Andrew Keith Eastbury, 31, of Kent Avenue, silsden, all face a charge of being drunk and disorderly.

Michael John Ward, 21, of Bolton Road, Silsden, faces a charge of disorderly conduct.

Stuart Gill, 33, of Burnside Avenue, Skipton, faces a charge of being drunk and disorderly and also faces a charge of assault on October 26.

All eight were ordered to reappear before Bingley magistrates on January 22.
