Peter Delaney of Baildon is taking over as the junior organiser for the Bradford Union of Golf Clubs following the death of Peter Morris last month. He will be assisted by Ralph Anderson of Northcliffe.

The change was announced at the 67th annual meeting of the Bradford Union when tributes were paid to the work of Morris, who has guided the area's young golfers for a number of years.

Outgoing president Holvy Taylor said: "It is fitting that, in what turned out to be his final year, Peter led his team to victory in the Yorkshire Inter-Union Junior Championship at Knaresborough. It was a wonderful day and the whole team were a credit to Peter and Bradford."

Bradford captain Tim Wade added: "I know Peter has always been keen for members of the Bradford team to come through the ranks.

"He was therefore delighted that five of the six members of the team that won the Yorkshire Inter-District Team Championship at Hallamshire were former junior team members."

The Union has made some major changes in rules for 1998. The Inter-Club Foursomes Matchplay will come in line with the Singles in that it will only be open to the top 16 from the Strokeplay Championship.

The Nine-Hole Individual Championship will be played as part of the Nine-Hole Team Championship, rather than as a separate event.

And this season, the Union reserves the right to cancel any event which doesn't reach two-thirds of its maximum entry.

In addition, it was agreed that a special committee will look at all the Union's rules with a view to bringing them up to date and in line with County and English Golf Union regulations.

The first change will be in the Scratch League, where abandoned matches will restart from where they left off, rather than going back to the beginning.

There was good news on the financial front, with a cash surplus for the year of £900, despite an increase in expenditure, which included a World War Two siren for use at championships when it is necessary to recall the field!

Taylor handed over the presidency to David Benson of Northcliffe, with Keighley's Mal-colm Morris moving up to Senior Vice- President.

This year's Junior Vice-President is Malcolm Mawson, who will be the first president from the Silsden club when he takes office in the new century.

West Bowling's annual charity competition will be in aid of the Bradford Millennium Scanner appeal this year. The open fourball betterball medal will be on Wednesday, May 13. Entry fee is £15 per pair, with a handicap limit of 24 for men and 34 for women.

Tee times are available from 9am-10.30am and 1.40-4pm for men and 10.40am-1.30pm for women.
