TRAFFIC calming measures are to be carried out in a Menston road which has been described as a 'rat run' by residents.

Bradford Council has agreed to include a scheme in the 1998/99 financial year which will include a mini-roundabout at the junction of Leathley Avenue, Leathley Road and Low Hall Road.

There will also be traffic humps put in place on Leathley Road and Leathley Avenue and yellow lines at the junction with Station Road and Bradford Road.

A spokesman for Bradford Council's traffic management unit said the work had been drawn up and presented to members of Menston's Neighbourhood Forum for comment.

"The yellow lines will go ahead within the next couple of weeks. There will be double yellow lines in Leathley Road for 15 metres from the junction with Station Road.

"There will also be an additional single line on one side of the road which will continue for another 16 metres from the end of the double yellow line.

"This single yellow line will operate from Monday to Friday," he added.

The spokesman said the yellow lining had been worked out with residents and it was hoped it would prevent people from parking at the end of Leathley Road and blocking the junction.

"The other proposals are designed to help prevent rat-running through the village," he added.
