A WEEKLY shopping trip for older people in Otley has been launched by Otley Action for Older People (OAOP).

Every Tuesday, up to ten people can be collected from their homes and taken to do their shopping at the Owlcotes Centre in Pudsey.

Volunteers are on hand to help with any heavy shopping and for just £1.50 a trip, those who take up the offer are dropped off on their doorsteps and helped indoors.

Neil McLellan, of OAOP, said the weekly trips had been going for a couple of weeks and providing they were successful would continue after the trial run of up to Easter.

He said: "We ran trips before Christmas as a taster and felt weekly shopping trips would be appreciated. The trips are open to all older people in Otley and take place every Tuesday from around 1pm until 4.30pm. The cost is £1.50 and people are collected from home between 1pm and 1.30pm and returned home between 4.15pm and 4.30pm.
