Fifteen-year-old Haworth diver Lucy Hurst's Olympic prospects have been given a boost by the award of a silver passport.

This means that she is a potential Great Britain Olympian for the 2004 Olympic games in Athens, Greece. Golds are given to those in line to compete in the Sydney games in the year 2000.

Only 16 silver 'passports' are given to young divers every year.

It silver means that Lucy will get assistance with her training costs, and she can go to the British Olympic Association Medical Centre in London, for screening by their doctors if she is injured.

Lucy received her silver passport last week. She has being coached by Adrian Sutcliffe for seven-and-a-half years.

Lucy said: "My best result was winning the National Age Group Championships in Edinburgh last year and I was eighth in the Junior European Championships.

My favourite event is the seven-and-half metre platform, and my hardest dive there is the somersault with two-and-a-half twists."

Lucy was also part of the City of Leeds diving team which won a top award at the Yorkshire Electricity sports personality of the Year awards.
