Wharfedale travelled to Bradford to take on the league leaders in the Carlac Yorkshire Billiards League and won 5-2.

Bradford had recently overtaken Wharfedale when they scored a maximum seven points from a match in hand and established a two point lead. The Wharfedale team were well aware of the importance of this fixture both to keep their title hopes alive and avenge a home defeat by Bradford earlier in the season.

Wharfedale got off to the worse possible start when Jack Parker had to watch Richard Lodge reel off successive breaks of 46, 42, 48 and 38.

Parker had little opportunity to reply and the Bradford man took the game 200-16 to give an easy two points to the home side and virtually guarantee the single point available for total aggregate scores.

The next game saw the start of the fightback, however. Paul Anderton played a superb game against the current County champion Mark Hirst and with the help of breaks of 77, 69 and 34 won by 200-151.

Hirst himself had breaks of 69 and 48 but the match was now level at two points each. The final pairing saw Wharfedale's captain Steve Crosland up against Alan Firth who had defeated him earlier in the season.

There was to be no repeat of this, however, as a determined Crosland took advantage of a careless start by Firth and with breaks of 59, 50 and 38 unfinished won the game 200-39 to give Wharfedale another two points as well as the unlikely bonus point for aggregate scores.
