Masham 3

Trojans Res 3

BURLEY Trojans Reserves remain in contention at the top of the Harrogate and District League Division Four following a hard-earned draw at fellow promotion hopefuls Masham.

Trojans made the long journey north with some trepidation following a heavy cup defeat at the hands of Masham earlier in the season.

Masham took control in the early stages but the visitors stood firm.

The home side wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead when they missed a hotly disputed penalty.

Trojans then took the lead against the run of play. Shankland spotted the 'keeper off his line and lobbed a superb goal from the halfway line - his seventh goal in six games.

Masham soon levelled matters but Trojans regained the lead when Cummins powered in a header from a corner.

Forrest increased the lead on the stroke of half-time as he ran clear from halfway to beat the 'keeper with ease.

Masham hauled themselves back into the game when they were allowed a freeheader from a corner.

The match then turned with 20 minutes to go. Trojans were awarded a penalty when Gibbons was felled in the box. However, Lord's weak spot kick was easily saved by the Masham keeper.

Shortly afterwards Masham broke away and forced home the equaliser after a goalmouth scramble.

Both sides then had opportunities to settle the match with Forrest spurning two excellent chances for Trojans. Nelson denied the Masham forwards with a couple of good saves.
