PROTESTORS fighting to save part of Bolling Road School playing fields from housing development are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the Bradford Council schools review.

One of the protest organisers, Jane Mould, said that despite the hiatus, they were planning a series of events to keep the campaign in the public eye.

A recent protest meeting heard that the group had been in contact with officials from the Sports Council who had promised to advise on objections if a planning application for the land was submitted.

Government guidelines have warned against the sale of school fields by councils.

The land, comprising of around a quarter of the Ben Rhydding school's playing fields, has been earmarked for housing land under the Bradford Unitary Development Plan.

Protestors argue that the land which would be left for school use is too muddy and bumpy to form a useful sports area.

Ilkley Parish and District Councillor Anne Hawkesworth said that part of the school fields had flooded recently.
