Truants, train buffs, bowlers and jobseekers will be helped by new Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) schemes.

A series of projects was agreed by the SRB partnership board on Wednesday night and are expected to be approved next week by Keighley Area Panel, the local arm of Bradford council.

Keighley Women's Centre, which was refused funding for next year by Bradford council, was awarded £10,000 so it can remain open at least until September.

Lund Park bowling club was awarded £2,000 to help improve the kitchen of its pavilion to cater for members, park users and visiting teams.

The Vintage Carriages Trust was granted £5,250 towards the cost of gas heating at its museum in Ingrow.

Grants were given for two housing developments aimed at providing low-cost rented accommodation in the town centre.

Cash was also awarded to a Keighley scheme that helps truants from Oakbank School gain skills so they can find jobs.

Co-ordinator Dave Spencer wants to make a video showcasing the success of the TWAGGARS scheme so it can seek long-term funding from other sources. TWAGGARS - Truants With Attitude Get Going Against Recurrent Stereotyping - is aimed at 15-year-olds and combines training in practical skills such as bricklaying with visits and work shadowing.

The Positive Action and Recruitment project was awarded cash to buy computers so local jobseekers can create professional CVs and application letters.

The two housing projects are 'Urban Village' developments which will together provide 15 homes in the area at affordable rents.

Keighley Plumbers Merchan-ts will be given £80,000 towards the £284,000 cost of building in Chapel Row next to their own premises.

MB Housing, which has already built 32 town centre homes, will receive £65,000 from SRB towards the £149,000 cost of its Drill Street development.
