Bradford City chairman Geoffrey Richmond believes the First Division format will remain unchanged when the Football League clubs vote on radical restructuring plans.

Representatives of most of the League clubs met this week in London to discuss the proposals which were put forward at a meeting in December last year, but no final decisions were made.

All 72 clubs will now reconvene at an extraordinary general meeting of the Football League in two months' time to plot their way forward, but Richmond feels change will not be on the agenda despite 58 out of 72 clubs losing money last season.

Among the ideas mooted had been to reduce the First Division to a 'super league' of 12 sides or cutting the existing number of clubs by four to 20.

Richmond said: "There was hardly any support for a 12-team 'super league' and I don't think much will happen with regards cutting the number of teams in the First Division.

"The reality seems to be that there will be little change apart from the relegation/promotion between Division Three and the Vauxhall Conference being changed to three teams."

Meanwhile, City are planning a revamp of the Player of the Year awards this season with a fan's evening planned for Monday, May 4. All the first team squad and coaching staff will be present at Bradford's Stakis Hotel to see a variety of awards handed out.

Tickets will go on sale soon for what promises to be a great evening with fans allowed to cast their votes towards the end of the season. And in memory of Yorkshire cricketer and former City player David Bairstow, who died earlier this year, a new trophy is being commissioned which will be awarded to the best junior player with the club.

City's main Player of the Year will be keenly contested with Eddie Youds, who misses his first game of the season today at Middlesbrough, expected to be among the favourites after overcoming his career-threatening knee injury which kept him out of action for 14 months.

Other leading candidates for the main award will probably include goalkeeper Gary Walsh, defender Darren Moore and midfield man Peter Beagrie.

The evening will also feature edited highlights of the season and a performance by the Bantam Belles along with awards for the Young Player of the Year, Supporter of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.
