The funeral took place last Friday of Billy Lloyd Hensman.

Mr Hensman died suddenly on February 6. He was 76.

He was a former teacher at Highfield School where he taught maths and technical drawing.

In his youth he was a lively entertainer, appearing with his band at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford after being discovered by Carol Lewis of the BBC. He served in the Royal Air Force during the War training as a pilot and navigator.

A colleague from the Keighley Retired Men's Forum, of which Mr Hensman was president in 1985-86, says he had many interests, especially practical ones.

"He built an organ and was adept in the use of the computer," he says. "He also devised model railway systems and led walks for a number of groups."

After retiring, Mr Hensman became an enthusiastic member of the retired men's forum where he was a frequent speaker and also organised summer walks.

A service was held at Keighley shared parish church followed by a private cremation. Mr Hensman is survived by his wife, Connie, and children Michael and Janet. He also leaves a grandchild.
