Fashion designer Roland Klein is set to bring the latest styles from London's catwalks to Bradford in a prestigious show for the Bradford Millennium Scanner Appeal.

Mr Klein, one of the biggest names in the fashion world, will treat the city to his autumn collection which will be showcased during British Fashion Week later this year.

The event is likely to be one of the highlights the T&A-backed appeal this year - provided organisers are successful in their hunt for a suitable venue.

It will be only the second time he has presented a show in this country outside London and it is expected to attract huge interest. Mr Klein worked in the great couture houses of Dior and Patou and later became personal assistant to Karl Lagerfeld.

He established his own label and his big-name clients included Princess Diana.

He does semi-couture work as well as ready-to-wear clothes and has demonstrated his versatility in also creating distinctive uniforms for companies including British Airways.

Linda Pollard, chairman of Bradford Hospitals NHS Trust, said she had known the designer for years and his agreement to do the show was a major coup.

"He was one of the top five designers in the country and the event for the appeal was bound to be popular. He has only done one show ever outside London apart from overseas and it really is a huge favour that he is doing this," she said.

Mr Klein said he had a lot of links with Yorkshire and promised a spectacular event.

"We will bring up all the collection from London with models and it will be the same kind of catwalk show that we will be doing in London for fashion week," he said.

"It won't just be a fashion show because as well as that we will try to bring some celebrities and there will be lots of other activities like cabaret."

The appeal's fundraising co-ordinator, Sally-Anne Bennett, said the key task was to find a venue.
