Former City player Robbie James has died at the age of 40. The ex-Welsh international collapsed and died while playing for Llanelli, the club he managed. He was rushed to hospital, but was dead on arrival. The match between Llanelli and Porthcawl was abandoned after 30 minutes.
Secretary Roger Davies said: "This is absolutely devastating news. Robbie seemed so fit and perfectly well."
James, who won 47 Welsh caps played 772 league matches scoring 133 goals, had two spells at Swansea and also played for Stoke, QPR, Leicester, Bradford City and Cardiff in a long and distinguished career.
John Docherty brought him to City in the summer of 1990 and in two seasons at Valley Parade he played 89 matches, mainly as a right back from where he loved to go forward and unleash one of his thunderous shots at goal.
He turned down City's offer of a new contract at the start of the 1992-3 season to return to South Wales and join Cardiff.
He later played and managed Merthyr Tydfil.
