Twentieth Century Fox plans to make a sequel to The Full Monty, and hopes to persuade Glusburn's Simon Beaufoy to write it.

Simon, pictured right, missed out on an Oscar this week for penning mega movie The Full Monty. He was beaten in the best screenplay category by the writers of new hit US movie Good Will Hunting.

Of the sequel Simon was this week quoted as saying: "Without me they're going to make something terrible. With me I might be able to pull off a decent film. I'm not ruling it out."

The Full Monty won one Oscar, for best original musical or comedy score, at the Academy Awards ceremony in the USA.

Simon's mother Madeleine, who lives in Walker Close, Glusburn, with her husband Roger, this week described the result as an honourable defeat for her son.

Mrs Beaufoy says Simon and fellow members of the Full Monty team were treated like royalty while in Los Angeles for the Oscars ceremony.

She says: "He didn't expect to get an Oscar for himself. He thought it would be lovely, but didn't expect it. It was his first film, and it was quite a good field."

Simon's second full-length film, Among Giants, also set in Yorkshire, is expected to be released at the end of the summer.
