Bradford youngsters are all set for an active Easter - thanks to partnerships with police.

Toller Lane police have joined forces with Bradford Council and local businesses to give young people a sporting chance over the holidays.

A five-a-side football tournament - the Yorkshire Cable Youth Challenge - kicks off at 1pm on Wednesday at Manningham Recreation Centre as part of an ongoing partnership with Bradford Safer Cities.

And on Thursday and Friday, youngsters will be able to take part in a range of sporting activities as Bradford Council's Community Recreation Sports Team pays a visit to the area.

The team will take a van loaded with a range a sports equipment to fields opposite Belle Dene Road, Lower Grange, between 1pm and 4pm on Thursday, and to fields between Old Road and Thornton Road, Thornton, on Friday at the same time.

Youngsters can choose what they want to do with the equipment - from rounders to rugby. The activities will be moved to Thornton Recreation Centre if it rains.

Divisional Youth Projects Officer PC Tim Illingworth said: "I've been working closely with young people in the Lower Grange area over the last few weeks and they have told me what sort of activities they would like to take part in.

"We would also like to know what activities young people would like to see in the Thornton area."
