SUPER LEAGUE stars Lee Hansen and Grant Anderson joined the Cougars as coach Lee Crooks finally clinched deals he has been working on for weeks.

Former St Helens, Leeds and Warrington player George Mann was also due to sign last night to add one of the final pieces in Crook's new-look squad.

"They have all been playing Super League and should add what we need to kick-start the season at Cougar Park," Crooks said.

Lee Hansen - real name Liuaki - played with Leigh and Widnes before moving to Wigan where he played in 25 games last season. He represented Tonga in the Centenary World Cup.

He is expected to turn out for Cougars against Widnes on Sunday.

Anderson, who played alongside Crooks at Castleford was a Great Britain Under-21 international and will play for Cougars on a match-to-match basis.

Mann, 32, is a free agent after being released by Warrington at the end of last season. The New Zealander played with St Helens and Leeds before joining Warrington.

Cougars face a possible £2,000 fine and suspensions after the team was put on report following a brawl at Featherstone Rovers on Monday - and coach Lee Crooks has also warned players involved will also be disciplined by. they club.

The six-minute punch up was the low point of a dismal performance in which Cougars reached their lowest level for years.

Individually the players have the ability to play good rugby, but throughout the season their performance as a team has collapsed under the slightest sign of pressure.

The discipline of the side has also been a source of constant concern as they have thrown away possession and - even with the chance of victory within their grasp - have handed the opposition chances to snatch the points.

Forward Rob 'Two Bobs' Roberts seems to have lost the rugby brain which saw him tipped as a Great Britain player of the future.

He arrived at Cougar Park with a glowing reputation and staggering potential, but he could have thrown it all away on Monday night with punches and head butts which should never be seen in a sporting arena - and they weren't his first transgressions.

After missing early season matches, because of a three-match suspension, he has given away penalties with monotonous regularity.

On Friday night against Hull KR he put his team mates under incredible pressure on their own line, and managed to flatten Rovers fullback Mike Fletcher with a forearm smash which would certainly have seen him given his marching orders if the referee and linesmen had not been concentrating on play which was already yards further upfield.

l Cougars Supporters Club are to present their Player of the Year trophy for last season after Sunday's Widnes match.

Fans are given their chance to vote for the player who they think made the biggest contribution to the club throughout the season, but the result of the ballot is being kept a closely guarded secret until the presentation.
