Trigonometry, geometry and algebra will form part of the equation for Windhill youngsters who have volunteered to join a new maths group in their spare time.

A six-week maths revision workshop is in full swing at Windhill Community Centre in Church Street, offering coaching for teenagers sitting GCSE exams this summer.

The free course, which began on Monday, provides a complete revision scheme covering the main topics needed to pass exams along with exam techniques.

An experienced and qualified tutor is available to offer expert advice at the workshops, which take place every Monday after school between 4pm and 5pm.

Centre community development worker Kath Quinn said: "Quite often, people who are already good at maths get extra coaching to bring them up to a higher standard, but we want to encourage people and tell them they don't have to be brilliant at the subject to increase their grades.

"The workshops will give people a friendly and informal environment to work in."

The new group forms part of the Windhill Home Work Club, run from the community centre every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

"The feedback from people so far has been brilliant," said Kath.

Both clubs are being funded by Bradford TEC and the Salts Foundation.

"But funding is a constant problem and we're always on the look out for donations, even just for paper and pens," added Kath.

The Maths Revision Workshop and the Home Work Club are available to all pupils living in the Windhill area. Anyone wanting further information, or who can make a donation to the club, should contact Kath Quinn or Nick Koral on (01274) 588831.
