We tried

SIR - I write to you yet again on behalf of my husband and myself and the tenants of the flats to thank you and your staff and grateful thanks to reporter Gary Stokes for the way you have supported us and made public once again the problems we are having.

Perhaps between us we may have achieved something to make life easier for the people who will move into these flats after we have gone and the tenants still living here. At least between us we tried. Please continue to give your help and support to all who need it, the elderly and the disabled who have neither youth or the strength to fight alone. Our gratitude and thanks once more.

Yellow peril

SIR - Residents of Oxenhope be aware! Bradford city council are now talking about blighting the village with the curse of double yellow lines. If you don't take action now Bradford, in time, could cause many householders in parts of the village to suffer financially.

Ratepayers' money, your money has been allocated so as to cause further havoc in this village. As a parish councillor I am unaware of any detailed or meaningful discussions enter-ed into by Bradford with Oxen-hope PC, who are opposed to any part of this area having double yellow lines.

It seems contempt for democratic processes by Bradford towards its ratepayers has once again been exposed. Such a slip to the public before a local election proves that local democracy is just a sham.

The Worth Valley, Keighley-based Bradford councillors, who supposedly are responsible to the electors in this area, would, or should have had knowledge of these proposals to cause even more devastation in this area, yet none of these people has made any salient reason for such proposals. Electors take note. The problem in this small village and in other parts of this rural area, is a problem manufactured solely by Bradford's madness for giving permission for two car houses, in a region totally overwhelmed by inadequate road structures which were never designed for Bradford's UDP policy.

Please Bradford, go away. Create your planning nightmares somewhere else. We've had enough!

Gala query

SIR - I am one of three 'old' Farnhillians - one of whom lives in Glusburn, another in Bournemouth, while I live quite close to Oxford. Our Glusburn friend sends us the KN and Craven Herald, for which we are both very grateful as it keeps us up to scratch with local news.

Anyway we have got a query. Keith in Bournemouth wants to know if anyone can name the man who used to take part in Keighley and Skipton Galas, dressed either as Hiawatha or the Wandering Jew, and invariably won first prize. He thinks the man came from Sutton or Eastburn. I believe the period we are thinking of would be just pre-war or just after, bearing in mind that Lawrie and myself are 72 and Keith is a young 70. Once again, thanks. Both papers are first class and, as I say, they make our weeks.

DENNIS FOSTER,

Steeple Aston, Bicester.

No kidding

SIR - In the last week I have been approached by teenage prostitutes, burgled and escap-ed from drug-crazed muggers. May I suggest to the Aire Worth Reform Group (currently campaigning for an independent Keighley) that the town should accept a 'wild west' reputation and be renamed 'Dodge City' or 'Tombstone.' Tourists would flock to the area. Me, I'm working at becoming 'Billy the Kid'!

NIGEL BOND,

Belgrave Road, Keighley.
