These youngsters from the Lawkholme Lane Action Group did a spring clean on a grand scale this week.

The group of youngsters visited All Saints church in Highfield Lane, Keighley, to clean up the yard which had filled up with litter.

They had a little help from their friends at Woodville horticulture centre, as well as a group of local children who volunteered their help. By the time they had finished a large industrial skip had been filled and the church yard was restored to pristine order.

Keighley police's Youth Services Officer PC Lee Holmes, pictured with the boys, is delighted.

He says: "Everyone did a great job, and it was refreshing to see local youngsters just turning up on the day and helping out," he says. "This is their local church and they were fed up of seeing rubbish in the yard. It was not just a case of a few drink cans and crisp packets - people seem to be tipping rubbish over one of the walls."

The clean-up was the action group's contribution to the National Spring Clean in April campaign, which aims to make Britain a tidier country.

The group was treated to a slap-up lunch by McDonald's in Keighley.
