FORMER boxer, movie star and TV soap actor, Adam Fogerty has joined the Cougars - for the second time.

Fogerty had a blistering Super League career with St Helens, but walked away from Warrington Wolves earlier this season because he'd had enough of full-time rugby.

"I wasn't enjoying being full time because it meant being in Warrington for eight in the morning and staying there until eight at night, and there was a lot of hanging about in between. I was still enjoying playing but everything involved in the full time game finally got to me," he told KN Sport as he signed on in the Cougar Park boardroom.

"After packing in I missed playing and I missed the lads, so coming the Keighley is a superb opportunity."

But it is not the first time he has played for the Keighley club. As a teenager he had three or four games for the club when the late Colin Dixon was coach.

He also played at Cougar Park twice when he was with St Helens.

"The one thing that I remember about those games was the noise. The Cougar Park fans were incredible, you couldn't hear yourself think," he said.

Fogerty also met up head-to-head with his new coach Lee Crooks on the field, and in one memorable match both were given their marching orders by the referee.

"It was an all-in punch up, and because we were the biggest men onthe field I think we stood out and the ref decided we should be the ones to walk."

As a professional boxer he fought a British Title eliminator and was rated among the top five heavyweights in the UK. It was also at that time that he got his first chance as an actor, appearing alongside Sir John Gielgud in the film 'The Power of One'. He got his actors' Equity card and has continued to appear in films and on TV since.

Recently he has had parts in top British films Brassed Off, Up and Under, and the quirky comedy Shooting Fish.

His latest film, a spy spoof, 'The Man Who Knew Too Little' recently hit the movie screens.

He has insisted on a special get-out clause in his contract, allowing him to leave if a full time acting job - or a Hollywood blockbuster - lures him away.

"He has always been able to mix his acting and playing careers, so I can't see a big problem," said coach Lee Crooks.

The 29-year-old who is 6ft 4ins tall and weighs in at 17.5 stones has signed until the end of the season, and is expected to be in the starting line-up against Whitehaven on Sunday.

With Fogerty and Ian Tonks also making his debut in the squad alongside Lee Hansen the front line will have a totally different look to the team which took a hammering at Whithaven earlier in the season.

"It will be a tough match, but a lot of the lads will remember that match well and will be determined it doesn't happen again. Dave Larder, Fred Sapatu andJason Rmshaw will be out to prove that what happened up there was a one off." Crooks said.

The coach also made a plea for Cougar fans to get behind the team.

"We have transformed the team and now have a squad which will be playing some spectacular rugby. Our aim is still to get in the top five and earn a place in the end of season competition with the European clubs.

"Now I hope to see bigger crowds and really recreat the superb superb atmosphere that Cougar Park is known for," he said.
