A Lions member has visited Australia to see disabled children helped by Keighley inventor David Hart. Cyril Isherwood spent time at the Spastics Centre in Sydney watching how four youngsters are benefiting from Mr Hart's revolutionary walking frames.

The Lions supported a visit by the children to Keighley in February last year to be fitted with the frames. The youngsters, who suffer from cerebral palsy, include five-year-old Rachel Sutton who was pictured with Mr Hart (above) on the front page of the Keighley News.

The Isherwoods had tea with the mayor of the City of Ryde, where Rachel attends special school, then visited the local Lions group.

Rachel is pictured right with her mother, Mr Isherwood and his wife Margaret, and mayor Peter Graham during a civic reception held in Mr Isherwood's honour.

The mayor said the Hart walkers had given the children a mobility nobody thought they would achjieve. He said: "Although the device looks deceptively simple, its use has improved the children's self-esteem, health and interaction with their peers."

Laycock man Mr Isherwood, 70, was delighted to find a Union Flag was being flown in honour of his visit. He was given a plaque thanking Bradford council and Keighley people for their kindness to the children who visited England last year.

"We were overwhelmed with the welcome," says Mr Isherwood.
