Rangers right back Stephen Wright is all set to become Bradford City's second major signing of the close season.

Manager Paul Jewell has agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old former Scotland under-21 international and he will sign a three year contract today providing he passes a medical.

Wright, who was a team-mate of City's other summer signing Stuart McCall, is at the end of his contract at Ibrox and will join City under the Bosman ruling with no transfer fee involved.

Scottish Premier League clubs Hearts and Dundee United were also interested in signing the player who spent the last two months of the season on loan with City's First Division rivals Wolves.

His signing will fill the gap at right back following Chris Wilder's move to Sheffield United and on-loan Scott McAnespie's return to Fulham.

Jewell said: "Stephen Wright had a cruciate ligament injury during his time at Rangers and I believe that injury knocked back his career by 18 months. But for that injury I believe he would have had a chance of being in the Scotland squad. I think he was being ear-marked to go into the senior squad.

"Although he is a right back he can also play in the centre of the defence. He spent two months on loan at Wolves and I think they were keen to sign him. I watched him play a number of times. He is quick and he can get up and down the field. He has got a good pedigree and he will add a bit of quality to our side."

Wright made his Aberdeen debut in 1990 and made 147 lea-gue appearances and also played for them in the UEFA cup.

He joined Rangers three years ago in a £1.5 million deal, but his career at Ibrox has been dogged by injury.

City are also being linked with Stockport's 31-year-old midfield player Paul Cook who was a team-mate of Jewell's at Wigan. Cook has since played at Norwich, Wolves, Coventry and Tranmere, making about 400 league appearances in all.
