Goal-scoring hero Peter Beagrie believes Bradford City must travel to Lincoln with confidence next week, despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home by the Second Division side last night.

The 33-year-old struck with a well-worked free kick in the 89th minute of a physical game at Valley Parade to cancel out Tony Battersby's 86th-minute opener for Lincoln.

Beagrie's second goal in as many games means the sides start the second leg of their first round Worthington Cup tie all-square, although Lincoln have the advantage of an away goal.

City improved dramatically after a wretched first half devoid of entertainment, and Beagrie believes they must use this as their inspiration next Tuesday at Sincil Bank.

"When we did get the ball down and play football, we managed to create the chances. That has to give us confidence, as on another night we could have had two or three goals. They are a set-piece team, and all their chances are scrambled affairs.

"We must travel confident of getting the right result. We always knew what sort of game it would be.

"It was a very tough game to play in. You try and not get drawn into their way of play, but it is difficult."

Beagrie's equaliser was his second goal of the season, following his penalty against Stockport on Saturday - his first goal in nearly four years, although he did miss two seasons through injury during that time.

He said: "It would have been nice to have scored and finished with a win, but at least it brought us back into the game.

"It is also nice to see something we practice on the training ground paying off. Gordon Watson did well by running over and grabbing the ball to get the free kick taken.

"I saw their full back looking and gave Gordon the nod and said 'Just thrash it as hard as you can'. The defender heard that and fell for it which a gap for the shot.

"We were disappointed to concede a goal so late on because both Andy O'Brien and Darren Moore had played very well."

Manager Paul Jewell, meanwhile, is facing more injury problems ahead of Saturday's trip to newly-promoted Watford.

Both record £1 million signing Lee Mills and left back Lee Todd limped out of the action last night and face a race to be fit for the Vicarage Road clash.

The City boss said: "Lee Mills has a twisted ankle, while Lee Todd was struggling with his groin. It is too early to say if they will be fit, but both players have to be rated doubtful at the moment."

City's near neighbours Huddersfield and Halifax both notched victories last night. The Terriers beat Mansfield 3-2, while the Shaymen had a fine 2-0 win at Wrexham.
