RESIDENTS are objecting to plans for a new £500,000 medical centre to serve the people of Bramhope and Pool-in-Wharfedale.

They fear the increased traffic the Tredgold Crescent building could generate could cause problems for children travelling to and from the nearby Bramhope Primary School.

And a site meeting with members of Leeds City Council is to be requested so that

a range of issues can be

discussed. Bramhope Parish Council Chairman Councillor John Mordy said: "There are a number of issues arising from it. I think we are all agreed that the present health centre is dilapidated and generally, we must welcome the new one.

"I don't believe we can, in principle, object to the health centre and the re-development of it.

"What we have to do is to ensure that the issues that have been raised are dealt with in the most satisfactory possible way.

"Quite clearly there will be an increase in traffic and there will be traffic over a longer period."

Residents objecting to the plan also voiced concerns over the location and design of the new health centre, but the most prominent worry was road safety.

A member of the public said: "The people who will be most concerned about this are the parents of the children.

"This application has been put in right in the middle of the summer holiday period and most of the parents of these children will have no idea until they come back from their

holiday and then it will be too late.

"I believe the application should be put back until parents have had a chance to make comments.

"It isn't fair and you are talking about children's lives."
