Bradford Bulls' rising star Stuart Fielden returned to his old school Yorkshire Martyrs to present the coveted Sportmark Award.

The award is given by the Department of Education in recognition of a school's sporting excellence.

Eighteen-year-old prop forward Fielden, one of the brightest young forwards in rugby league, presented the award to headmaster John Clarke.

It was a proud occasion for head of PE Andy Mullaney who said: "The award recognises the amount of time a school devotes to PE and the extra curricula work in teams and clubs we run for our pupils and the quality of the curricula taught."

He added: "We do 13 different sports at school and we have a PE staff of seven. They include waterpolo, hockey, rugby league, football, athletics and cricket. We are very proud of Stuart Fielden and besides being good at rugby league, he represented West Yorkshire at athletics and was a good all-rounder."

Lots of Yorkshire Martyrs pupils have made their mark in local and regional sport.

The McGrath brothers, Yorkshire's Anthony and East Bierley skipper Dermot and Fitzpatrick brothers all went to Yorkshire Martyrs.

And, besides, Fielden, another Martyrs pupil Wayne Price has just signed for the Bulls and will be returning to school to do an A-level PE course.

James Coubrough has left school to sign for Sheffield Wednesday and Matthew Brooke plays for the West Riding FA team.
