Burley Juniors Under-14's have got a new kit sponsor for the 1998/99 Craven Junior League Section B.

The juniors will be turning out in their new kit courtesy of Burley-in-Wharfedale businessman Brian Garlick.

Mr Garlick, who runs a sign writing business in the village, has put some money into the team and is a great supporter of the club.

His son, Jon, turns out for the Under-14's.

Pete Chambers, manager of the club, said: "We are very greatful for the support of Mr Garlick, as well as Royal Mail and Bradford Park Avenue, who have both donated match footballs for this season.

"It is an expensive business running a football club, expecially since local authority grants stopped three or four years ago.

"So, like most clubs, we are always on the look-out for benefactors to help support us," he added.

"The first league game of the season, which will be a tough test for us, is against Thornbury Youth on September 6 at the Recreation Ground," he added.

"It is a smashing kit and we have got it from Ilkley-based company Pendle. We like to try and support local business whenever we can," said Mr Chambers.

He said the club was also looking for new players. "We run teams from Under-8's through to Under-18's and all players of any ability would be welcome," he added.

The new kit made its debut in a pre-season friendly against Menston Hotshots last night (Wednesday).

There is another friendly next Wednesday (September 2) against Shipley, kicking-off at 6pm.
