THE Ilkley and District Motor Club ran one of its motor-cycle events - the Re-Union Trial - in the Greenhow/Thruscross area where 25 riders tackled the varied sections at Watergate, Harrison's Field, Pockstones and Stump Cross.

The event reconstructs a typical motor-cycle trial of the 1920s and results are based on handicaps such as date of machine and date of the competitors first event and there are two separate competitions for the J S Duxbury Re-Union Shield and the G A Reed Trophy. Many of the stalwarts of motor-cycling in the area were out as officials and observers with Maurice Rispin and Marc Smoley setting the course and Tom Ellis of Ripon acting as starter.

Bill Hill has won the Duxbury Shield for the past three years but a bad back put him out of contention this year and he finished third on his 1955 James taking the Colin Campbell Award. The Duxury Shield was won by Harry Clayton of Oakworth (pictured right) riding a 1932 OK Supreme and whose first event was an Army Trial in 1947.

He finished second last year. Second and winning the Harold Scott Award was P Guest on a 1941 Ariel and Dennis Buckle, whose first event was a Horsforth Trial in 1954, won the Rowland Winn Trophy for the oldest competitor to finish. The Allan Jefferies Award for the oldest machine to finish the course was won by the 1936 Ariel ridden by K Butterfield. The GA Reed Trophy was won by M Driffield on a 1957 James.

Afternoon tea was taken afterwards at Stump Cross Caverns rounding off a very enjoyable but competitive afternoon. Next year will be the 50th Re-Union Trial and it is hoped for plenty of support next September to keep this traditional event on the calendar.
