Rawdon OLD BOYS 8

NORTHOWRAM 0

RAWDON Old Boys cruised through to the next round of the County Challenge Cup overwhelming Northowram with their all round display.

The visitors were not allowed to make any impact at all as the Old Boys did what they should have done in the previous game - played quality football for 90 minutes.

The goals came from some excellent play and youngster Matthew Glendinning had plenty to celebrate.

The birthday boy netted twice to celebrate his selection for the West Riding County FA Youth squad.

Other goals came from Burnell, Clarke, Harper, Tony Gilks and Michael James.

The Old Boys are now playing some quality football with a good strong squad and they will be able to measure how far they have come this season when they face tricky opponents in Bay Athletic in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday in an away game.

Rawdon AFC 3

The Old Boys reserves came up against local rivals Rawdon who fielded quite a few former Old Boys players in their side.

Rawdon AFC were the side who wanted victory more and they turned out worthy winners although the Old Boys had an Andy Firth headed goal disallowed with the referee out of position.

The ball was a good foot over the line but the referee waved play on.

This would have made the score 2-1 and could have had quite a bearing on the end result.

However, Rawdon AFC deserved their win.

l On Saturday the Old Boys Reserves entertain Tyersal with a 2.15 pm kick-off.
