Residents have reached stalemate in their row with Bradford City over the club's plans for a giant new stand.

People living in Rock Terrace, in the shadow of the Valley Parade ground, say the proposed all-seater Kop would block out their daylight and cut the value of their homes.

There were hopes that a deal would be struck at a meeting held at Valley Parade last night. That would have boosted the chances of the new 125ft stand being the go-ahead by planners.

But after 90 minutes of talks, no agreement had been reached and residents said they felt frustrated that their demands had not been met.

City chairman Geoffrey Richmond had offered to underwrite the value of all 11 homes in Rock Terrace for the next 12 years and carry out improvements, including road resurfacing and installing better street lights as well as making a one-off payment to each household.

However, residents wanted the payment to be significantly higher and Mr Richmond refused to increase his offer.

A spokesman for the residents said: "We have tried to be conciliatory but they just won't budge. We came up with a figure which we thought was reasonable and I couldn't believe it when they said no."

Mr Richmond said he was disappointed that no agreement had been reached as he had been optimistic that the residents would accept the club's offer.

He added that the offer would remain on the table until the end of tomorrow.

Neither side would reveal how much money was being offered but Mr Richmond added: "The break point was the size of the ex gratia payment to each household which they were looking for a significant increase on.''
