Leading scorer Lee Mills has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association.

It follows a confrontation with a linesman at the end of Bradford City's match at Huddersfield on November 20.

The striker has 14 days in which to respond to the charge.

Tomorrow he hopes to put the matter behind him as he tries to get back among the goals at Oxford.

Mills has scored ten goals since joining City from Port Vale for £1 million at the start of the season and will be looking to add to his tally as the Bantams seek to return to winning ways after consecutive defeats against Huddersfield and QPR.

With John Dreyer and Ashley Westwood still injured, manager Paul Jewell made a bold effort to strengthen his defence yesterday.

He had a £1.25 million bid for Sheffield Wednesday's former Leeds defender Jon Newsome, rejected.

Jewell stressed his efforts to sign Newsome did not represent a panic measure in the wake of the 3-0 defeat by QPR.

But he is determined to keep on looking to improve his squad.

He said: "Players react in different ways, but knowing that we have put in a bid for Newsome may make our defenders determined to show us that we don't need to bring one in.

"We don't push defeats under the carpet, but we are not panicking either. I feel a defeat as much as anyone and ultimately I take responsibility.

"We have worked hard in training this week on closing players down and winning the ball back when we lose it. Let us get back to being hard to beat and do what we have been doing for most of the season.

"At Huddersfield I felt we played as well as I have seen us play and one poor performances against QPR doesn't make us into a bad side.

"Obviously we were disappointed to lose to QPR, but we are going to get hiccups during a season and we are not even halfway through. We conceded three goals, but before that we had not let in a goal in four home league matches.

"Don't forget we didn't have a great start to the season and people were talking about us as relegation candidates. Then our form picked up and people were talking about us going up automatically. "

Jewell who was impressed when he saw Oxford win their third match in a row at Norwich in the Sky TV match last Sunday added: "The truth is the table is wide open.

"QPR have won four matches out of five and eight of their players have Premiership experience. And yet they are third from the bottom which just shows how tough the First Division is."

Jewell has added right back Stephen Wright after recovering from his knee injury and midfield player Paul Bolland to the squad, but has left out teenage striker Gareth Grant who was on the bench against QPR. "There may be one or two positional changes," he said.
