A daily car parking battle has led a group of fed-up neighbours to beg Bradford Council to Tarmac their lawns.

Residents in Morley Avenue, Brad-ford Moor, have banded together to produce a petition after being forced continually to move their cars for each other.

Cars and vans are being parked on grass and in the middle of the narrow cul-de-sac which has space for only four vehicles.

The situation has led to rows between people living in the 12 houses.

Resident Bessie Whitaker said: "It's got beyond a joke, we often have to ask two or three people to move their cars.

"People drive on the grass and churn it up to avoid disturbing each other.

"Most of the time people are willing to move their cars but sometimes we all get cheesed off."

Mrs Whitaker said Council vans had become stuck in mud while trying to get out of the avenue.

And disabled Mary Hestletine, who uses an access-bus, said the driver could rarely get near her front door.

She said: "The other day I fell in the mud caused by the cars when I got off the bus.

"Two years ago my husband had a heart attack and the ambulance had a right job getting in."

The roadway in the cul-de-sac, which was built in the 1940s, is only as wide as a car but widens in front of the houses.

Between the road and the houses is a large area of grass which has been covered over for parking in several other cul-de-sacs on the Bradford Moor estate.

A spokesman for Bradford Council's highways department said Bradford North Area Panel had funded a number of schemes to Tarmac grass verges.

He said: "We are aware there is little on-street parking available at the end of Morley Avenue and this street is on a list of those where work has been requested which is waiting to be considered by the area panel."
