ONE of the forces behind the success of the Burley Millennium Theatre Group is delighted with the input from village youngsters.

Digby Singleton is just one of a host of Theatre Group members preparing for a production of Willy Russell's Our Day Out.

The play, which features singing and dancing, is a portrayal of a day's trip for a group of youngsters from an inner city Liverpool school.

Mr Singleton said: "All of the cast are from Burley-in-Wharfedale, with the majority being pupils from Burley Middle School, making their first public performance with the theatre group."

He said: "It is a good example of Burley youngsters coming together and rehearsals have been going well.

"The first play, Habeas Corpus, was very much a play involving adults so this one was chosen due to the number of roles for youngsters."

The plan is to try to 'secure' the youngsters for a millennium production and develop their acting potential.

"I know the director and choreographer are very keen to keep them together," said Mr Singleton.

Mr Singleton said twice-weekly rehearsals had been well attended since September, with no lack of enthusiasm from the younger cast members.

"I think we're just about ready to unleash the show to the public," joked Mr Singleton.

The play, which will be performed in the Queens Hall, will be the directorial debut for Angela Cocker. Sara Marshall is responsible for choreography. The production dates are Friday, December 11, and Saturday, December 12 (with a Saturday matinee).

Tickets for Our Day Out can be obtained from The Corner Shop in the village.
