Companies across Europe have shown an interest in bidding for Odsal Stadium - with a view to developing a sports stadium "of national importance."

The Council has advertised the project in the European Journal and across Britain and highlight the sports facility as the main part of the development.

It describes shopping, leisure and office schemes on the site as "ancillary."

The marketing of the land for a major project comes after the Superdome proposals bit the dust last month.

The Council has given a February 15 deadline for submission of interest.

Chairman of the Council's regeneration committee Coun-cillor Dave Green said there had already been widespread interest but he could not give details.

Mr Green said residents have been pledged a full say in the redevelopment of the stadium after blazing rows over the former Superdome proposals.

It is understood Chelverton Properties - which is expected to be a front runner - has made its anticipated approach.

The company developed the massive Blue Water out-of-town shopping complex and plans a development with a scaled down sports stadium.

Millionaire Eddie Healey, who also wants to develop Odsal, was not available for comment today.

But Bradford Bulls chairman Chris Caisley said: "We have done a deal with him and as far as we are concerned he is the developer."

Residents spokesman Dave Warburton welcomed the pledge of a greater say in the project.

He said: "We were not consulted at all on the Superdome scheme. In fact it seemed a fait accompli."

"I am pleased the Council has taken notice of us."
