Amateur Rugby League: Queensbury's top of the table clash with Park Amateurs proved to be a damp squib as the Halifax side cantered to an easy 33-0 win.

'Bury's credentials as the Premier Division's most consistent side meant little in what must surely be regarded as the shock result of the season so far.

Queensbury's secretary Brian Holdsworth was nearly lost for words but did not offer any excuses. He said: "If we were due an off day this was it, the only thing now is to put it firmly behind us".

West Bowling had more than enough chances to win their home game against Elland, but had to rely on a last minute goal from Dean Garside to share the spoils at 10-10.

Bowling were certainly creative in a first half of fast attacking football. After five minutes winger Andy Priestley was bundled into touch just short, but Bowling maintained the momentum and from a quick play the ball stand-off Shaun Fallon put centre Martin Tordoff over.

Garside failed with the extras. After 14 minutes the Fallon-Tordoff combination struck again when the pair made the initial opening for winger Steve Gregory to race past the Elland fullback to score, Garside missing the conversion once again.

Bowling's forwards - with Richard Annetts to the fore - were proving a handful for the visitors and Gregory should have scored his second with a clear-cut chance in the corner. Simon Owen stormed through the middle and with only the fullback to beat his try scoring pass sadly went to ground to leave the score 8-0 at the break.

Bowling loose forward John Helliwell retired injured just after the restart and the pack suddenly looked badly out of balance. Elland powered over for a converted try before Bowling second rower Johnny Metcalfe was held on his back over the line.

Another Elland try gave them a 10-8 lead before the last gasp effort from Garside levelled matters.

Clayton lost 28-12 at home to Lindley Swifts but were, on reflection, generally satisfied with their performance bearing in mind they had teenagers Craig Pickthall and Adam Mitchell absent on Yorkshire U-18's duty.

In a tight first half Lindley squeezed in front 4-0 at the break and increased the lead to 8-0 before Scott Pendlebury closed the gap with one of his specials converted by Darren Collins.

With everything to play for the Villagers went to pieces and conceded a catalogue of sloppy tries before hooker Andy Barnes scored at the posts to leave Collins a simple conversion and his colleagues some degree of consolation on a frustrating day.

West Bowling A move into third place in Division Three following a 14-4 win at Stainland Stags, the tries coming from sixteen-year-old wingman Mark Dunning, prop Ryan Hunkin and hooker Paul Ali. Jason Woolham kicked the solitary goal and man of the match was captain Steve Carter.

In Division Five, Queensbury A maintained their unbeaten record 38-6 at Park Amateurs. It took them fifteen minutes to get back in the groove in their first outing since mid December, but they never looked back following a try from fullback Andrew Barraclough goaled by Shaun Fallon.

They continued to turn the screw with further efforts from subs Richard Ingham, Jason Pell, hooker Luke Cooper, centre Neil Hobson and second row forward Ian Thorpe.

Fallon added four conversions before Barraclough had the final say with his second touch down of the afternoon.

West Bowling B snatched the points 15-14 against Shipley at Peel Park thanks to a drop goal from stand-off Martin Wright. Shipley lead 14-9 at the interval with two tries from Mick Carnelly, one of which was goaled by Steve Ellison.

Bowling had two tries from Wright and one from Andy Wilcock in a real thriller.
