KEIGHLEY's clash with top of the table side Darlington Mowden Park was called off last week because of a frozen pitch.

The match has been re-arranged for this weekend with the Utley side fielding a near full-strength side against the runaway leaders.

They are out to avenge their 21-6 defeat at Darlington earlier in the season.

Darren Ideson takes his place in the team in place of Mark Lister who is recovering from a knee operation. There are also injury doubts over Dave Close and Neil Scott, but they retain their place in the squad and will be given late fitness tests before the game.

Yorkshire rugby union is on the brink of a major split with the national ruling body over their plans for youth rugby throughout the country.

County officials are unhappy about developments at both Under-18 and Under-19 level, and have given their backing to a revolt by the Northern division following plans to scrap the Under-19 County Championship, recently won by Yorkshire.

Under-19 officials have warned that Colts matches are vital to the development of grass roots rugby, but the national RFU management has withdrawn funding, disbanded the Colts Panel and refused to honour their promise to hold further meetings to discuss thesituation.

"All six Northern Counties want to continue with Under-19 County Colts," said Yorkshire colts Chairman Alan Davies.

"We are going to go ahead with an unofficial Divisional game with money from our own funds.

"Our man concern is that money which should be spent at grass roots level -- Under-19 Colts are the lifeblood of many junior clubs -- is being squandred by the focus on elite players and elite clubs.

"We simply want the RFU to hold the meeting that was promised and reconsider the position. A lot of dedicated workers within the sport are deeply involved in this issue and they are fighting for a cause which every grass roots club across the country should be aware of," he said.

There is also to be a meeting with national youth development officer, David Shaw, to work out difficulties in the Under-18 age group.

Yorkshire RFU has been locked in a long running dispute with the national body over the future shape of Youth rugby and the demarcation between School and Club rugby at Under-18 level.

Clubs have also been asked for their views on a new league structure which is due to be introduced for the 2000-2001 season.

The RFU is planning a new structure for Level 5 -- the equivilent of Thwaites Division North One -- and below, which oncludes the vast majority of clubs. National organisers want to know what size leagues clubs want, if they favour end of season play-offs for promotion, and how sponsorship money should be divided.

The RFU is planning a series of road shows to explain their proposals.

n South Craven School pupil Adam Lucock, has ben selected to represent the Northern Division at Under-18 Clubs level in a four-way Divisional Festival at Wolverhampton on February 12-14.

Preparations for the Castlecroft weekend begin on January 31 when a North 18 Clubs XV takes on an Alan Davies XV drawn largely from the Championship winning Colts side.
