Eccleshill United 5

All-Stars U-13's 4

This was another marvellous display by a re-vitalised Addingham All-Stars Under-13 team.

Eccleshill, currently second in the league, soon had the All-Stars on the defensive. Goalkeeper Tom Smith made some great saves, Bob Shone and Tony Norris were outstanding at the centre of the defence and both full-backs, George Harker and Sam Britton, had fine matches - which all helped to keep the scoresheet blank for the first 15 minutes.

Then the home side took the lead following a corner, but soon after Danny Connell scored a great equaliser after being put throughby Thomas Fawcett.

The All-Stars then went 2 - 1 in front when Connell returned the favour and set up Fawcett who chipped the goal in from outside the area.

However, the lead was short-lived when Eccleshill levelled the score at 2 - 2 almost straight from the re-start.

But, again, the All-Stars responded magnificently and went 3 - 2 up with another super goal from Connell who, well supported by the hard working Tom Barritt, tormented the home defence all afternoon.

The All-Stars replaced Fancis Whitehead, who played a key role in midfield, with Mark Throup to bolster a defence which was often under severe pressure from a desperate Eccleshill team.

In the second-half Daniel Huby made some crunching tackles after coming on for Sam Britton.

Then Adam Munday replaced Danny Fox who had run himself into the ground in midfield.

With only 10 minutes left the All-Stars were very unlucky to go 4 - 3 down after a dubious penalty was awarded to Eccleshill.

The home side soon made it 5 - 3 but the All-Stars were far from finished and the tireless Steve Perkins drilled a low shot into the bottom to make it 5 - 4.

It was a thrilling finish to a terrific match but despite going close several times the All-Stars just could not get the equaliser for a share of points which was the least they deserved after such a magnificent team performance.

Danny Connell got the well deserved Man-of- the-Match point for the All-Stars.
