Work has nearly been completed on a complex of houses in Ilkley which have generated "exceptional" interest.

All but one of the nine plots at Annandale Court, at the site of the former Wells Club and Royal British Legion Club off Wells Road, has already been sold.

Lynda Aldous, sales coordinator for Victor Homes, said: "Three of them are now actually occupied. These are the mews houses and we have got a further five mews houses. All of these are sold and contracted.

"We have just got the coach house, the detached property to the back, which we have not got a buyer for as yet."

The frontage of the original building has been preserved and incorporated into the new development.

Miss Aldous said there had been a great demand for the houses and their location, a short distance from the town centre, had proved popular with buyers.

She said: "The demand was exceptional, it really was. We had actually legally exchanged contracts on all eight houses while some of them were not even built.

"I am sure we could have sold them several times over."

Victor Homes is set to start work on another site in the town, at Grove Road.

Miss Aldous said: "We are just developing a site on Grove Road as well. We will be building eight executive five-bedroomed detached houses.

"The first ones should be completed around June."
