Villagers are being urged to attend a meeting organised to decided the future of Addingham gala, which collapsed last year because of a lack of volunteers.

Residents were left disappointed when the traditional event failed to take place. Now a meeting has been arranged for next week to kick-start this year's effort.

Chairman of Addingham Civic Society, Don Barrett - who believes the gala is an important event in the village calendar - has made numerous pleas for volunteers.

He said he was pleased with the response from people who have been involved in the gala previously.

But Mr Barrett wants to see a larger number of new faces.

He has called for a 'team effort', with the various responsibilities shared evenly between workers for the gala - including the booking of entertainment, selling of advertising space in the gala programme and securing of involvement from schools in the village.

"We already have the basis for a strong organising team but they will need more help," said Mr Barrett.

"I think we now have enough volunteers to ensure that we can do it and there will be a meeting to discuss the work involved.

"Of course, many hands make light work so if people are willing to join the team, please come along."

Further information can be obtained from Mr Barrett (telephone 01943 83077 or e-mail don@adingham.force9.net) .

The meeting is on Wednesday February 10 at 7.30pm in the Old School Room above the library.
