A multi-agency approach to tackling the problem of domestic violence throughout the country was launched in Bradford yesterday.

A video and advice booklet is now available to police officers and community workers which offers information about the options open to them when dealing with domestic incidents. Fifty-five out of the 86 female murders in the last six years in West Yorkshire were domestic-related.

The scheme is the brainchild of Toller Lane police station's domestic violence co-ordinator, PC Kay Binns. She said: "When I first started working as domestic violence co-ordinater, I realised I didn't know all the options open to me. If I didn't know what to advise people, how on earth could I help someone?"

Fourteen different agencies have joined forces to make the video, including Bradford Council and the Community Health Trust.
