Oakbank put up a fighting display before slipping to defeat in the national Goodyear Under-16 Trophy.

They were beaten 5-2 by Rawlins College, Leicestershire, in an thrilling encounter at Marley on Tuesday.

Rawlins did not look like a time which had just travelled for three hours as they started at an electrifying pace.

Their early domination proved too much when Nelson stuck out his arm inside the box to give away a penalty which gave the Leicester side the lead.

They followed up with a lucky second goal which seemed to deflect off everybody in the area on its way into the net. Rawlins made it 3-0 before Rutherford showed his talent with a shot from outside the area to take the half time score to 3-1.

Oakbank started the second half with hope, and with the wind behind them they totally dominated the game, but they seemed unable to get the ball into the back of the net. Alderson had several golden opportunities, but could not get a clear sight of goal.

As they pushed forward Oaks left openings at the back which Rawlins punished. Lonsdale finished off a great shot from man of the match Houldsworth, but with five minutes to go Rawlins again took advantage with a fifth goal.
