Seventeen-year-old Thomas Haughey began his professional rugby league career with Wakefield Trinity.

Tom, who started playing rugby league with theCougar Cubs, had been chased by Leeds Rhinos and his home town club, before deciding to join Trinity's Super League youth training scheme.

He travelled to join the squad on Wedesday and will be with the club as an apprentice for two years, but has already been told he could make the senior grade very quickly if he works hard on training. He will also spend a day each week continuing his education at college.

He began playing the game six years ago reaching the Cubs' Under-16's and more recently played with Bingley and Keighley Albion's Conference League side.

"He is one of the best young talents I have seen I we all wish him well in the professional ranks," said Albion coach Gary Moorby.

Thomas, of North Dean Road, Keighley, also played for Calversyke School and Oakbank Sports College. for many years he was a team mate of Richard Moore, who recently signed as a professional with Leeds Rhinos. Both players were coached by Cubs coach Dave Rooke.
