Yorkshire are due to hold further talks with Leeds City Council later this month to agree the council's contribution towards the proposed £11.1m redevelopment of the cricket side of Headingley stadium.

It had been expected that Yorkshire's application to the Sports Council for lottery cash would be completed by the end of January, but that was not possible because discussions between the county and the council are still continuing.

Yorkshire chairman Keith Moss said: "A meeting will be held with the leader of the council, Coun Brian Walker, on February 26.

"We have not changed our aspirations for a £11.1m redevelopment and the council's substantive offer will enable us to go forward with our lottery fund application."

A Leeds Council spokesman, said: "Lengthy discussions have already taken place with Yorkshire and the council's officers have indicated to the club what the level of funding by the council might be.

"This amount is subject to approval by the full council, and its officers will have to demonstrate that in assisting Yorkshire the benefits to the city will be commensurate with the level of benefits put into the scheme. It may be that Yorkshire are seeking a greater level of involvement from the council than we have indicated we will put in.

"It is the council's objective to try and keep cricket in the city."
