Classmates said a last goodbye to their tragic schoolpal at a moving funeral service for 11-year-old Michael Bucktrout.

The friends were amongst hundreds of mourners who packed the Chapel of Rest at Park Wood Crematorium, Elland, and heard Michael's favourite song, Celine Dion's My Heart Goes Out - the theme tune to the film Titanic - played.

Others who could not fit into the main chapel listened to the service in an adjoining room.

And they heard loving tributes to the "little boy who lived life to the full".

The youngster was killed while out cycling with a friend. He collided with a bus in Towngate, Wyke, on Monday last week.

Banks of wreaths and flowers lined the driveway to the crematorium and Michael's coffin was almost hidden from view by floral tributes.

A poignant message was read to the congregation from Michael's mother, Deborah Barnes.

It said: "Michael was a caring and friendly little boy who loved everybody and loved his brothers.

"He loved music, football and fishing. He was homely and would sometimes sit in with me and my friends and chat.

"He loved young children and had time and patience for everyone."

Michael's headmistress at Wyke Middle school also spoke about her young pupil. She told the mourners that the youngster would never be forgotten at the school.

"Michael was a loving boy from a close-knit family," she said.

"For us he will forever be an 11-year-old boy in Year Seven and in our school. He was obedient and happy and he loved to be out and about in the fresh air.

"He was a popular and good- natured boy who lived life to the full."

She added that pupils were already thinking about providing a fitting memorial to him at the school.

With a tremor of emotion, she finished: "We all miss you and remember you, Michael. Rest in peace, pet."

As the service drew to an end, another of Michael's favourite songs, Puff Daddy's Every Step You Take, was played while many of Michael's tearful friends left the service and sat outside, comforting each other in their grief.

Other mourners meanwhile went to view the lines of flowers bought in tribute to the youngster
